Taunton High Classes

This course is open to any Taunton High Student in grades 9-12.  No experience is necessary, any student motivated to learn a concert band instrument is welcome to join. Students taking this course are provided with a balanced comprehensive study of music through the concert band, and small ensembles which develops overall musical skills. This class is also a great experience for students that already play in band the opportunity to explore secondary instruments. A wonderful opportunity for those considering a music education career!!!
 

This course is open to incoming 8th grade wind players and percussionists only. While middle school experience is beneficial, any student motivated to learn a concert band instrument is welcome to join. Students taking this course are provided with a balanced comprehensive study of music through the concert band, which develops overall musical skills. Experiences include, but are not limited to, improvising, conducting, playing by ear, and sight-reading. Students are given opportunities to develop the ability to understand and convey the composer’s intent in order to connect the performer with the audience.
A limited number of public performances may serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and musical goals. Students are required to participate in these performance opportunities, outside of the school day, that support and extend learning in the classroom.
 

This course is open to students in grades 9-12 that are wind players and percussionists only. Students taking this course are provided with a continued balanced comprehensive study of music through the concert band, which continues to develop overall musical skills. This band builds on the 8th grade band experience and we also introduce marching band during the fall semester of this class. A limited number of public performances may serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and musical goals. Students are required to participate in these performance opportunities, outside of the school day, that support and extend learning in the classroom.

Symphonic Band is the intermediate ensemble for THS band students. Students are recommended to this class by Mr McKenzie by exhibiting adequate musical fundamentals and understanding throughout the grade 8 and concert band classes. Symphonic Band begins to explore higher musical literature while advancing technical facility. Students may be asked to switch instruments to achieve a well balanced band with full instrumentation.
